End of Summer Boat Parade-Join the Fun!

After a smashing success last year with over 35 boats and $62,000 raised Popponesset Island resident David Gershaw is hosting the 2nd annual Labor Day Weekend boat parade! The entry fee to sign up is a $100 donation to Save Popponesset Bay. Let’s beat last year’s numbers!!

Parade Details:
Each boat will line up in Popponesset Creek at 11am on Sunday September 5. With David Gershaw at the helm and the honk of a boat horn we will takeoff on the same parade route as last year through Popponesset Bay, looping around Sampson’s Island through Osterville and Cotuit, and ending up back at the Spit where everyone is free to enjoy at their leisure.
A huge hit last year – we encourage each boat to decorate in a marine life theme. An award for the best decorated boat will be given at the end of the event!
The boat that gives the largest donation will win an all-expenses-paid dinner cruise to the Atlantic in Edgartown on David’s 37ft Bahama Joint Venture for a total of 4 guests at a date and time of the winner’s choice.

A fun way to end the Summer together! If you do not have a boat we encourage you to come show your support and wave along the Spit as we leave the bay at 11am. To sign up please enter your information by clicking HERE!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Henri is Approaching!

As you know Cape Cod is due to experience Henri’s hurricane conditions. In preparation for the storm, SPB volunteers will remove all signage and the symbolic fencing from the Spit. We don’t want any of these materials to wash away. REMEMBER – STAY OFF THE DUNES AND NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THE SPIT UNTIL AFTER LABOR DAY. Without signs, visitors who are not from our community will not know the rules. Please be an ambassador for the Spit and advise people of our restrictions.

Please secure all your boats with extra lines, remove kayaks and paddle boards from docks. We have been through this before and it is not fun. If you need help preparing your property, please let us know.

Stay safe!
